Wells Cathedral, Somerset
Wells Cathedral, Somerset
∆ 15,825
Described as "unquestionably one of the most beautiful" and "the most poetic" of England's cathedrals, Wells Cathedral is set in the mediaeval heart of the smallest city in England.
It is considered to be the earliest English Cathedral to have been built in the Gothic style, having been constructed between 1175 - 1450AD and replacing an earlier church on the site dating from c705AD.
This view from the South, partly reflected in the Bishop's Palace moat, captures the late afternoon sun warming the golden stone and enhancing the architecture with shadows.
